I%26#39;ll be in CdA for a week in July in 2009. I%26#39;ll be batchin it so accommodations don%26#39;t have to be deluxe. Right now I plan to stay at the Bates Motel.(?) It has a fridge/micro which I want. During the week I%26#39;ll spend a day in Creston, Canada and visit the Kokanee Brewery. I know I%26#39;ll take a boat ride and do some hiking. CdA will be my base and I don%26#39;t mind driving a couple hours to do other things. After CdA I%26#39;ll spend a week in Glacier NP and four days In Salmon, Id. I%26#39;ve seen some very good suggestions for others and would appreciate yours.
Thanks

Sounds like you have everything all planned out!
There%26#39;s a lot of great places to hike in the surrounding areas, though this is not my expertise and I%26#39;m certain you%26#39;ll get more advice. :-)
It%26#39;s definitely an idea to hit the trails on Tubbs hill, though they can be kind of crowded in July. I%26#39;ve also heard many a person compliment hiking through Farragut State Park.
I also like to hike up in the moutains just past Fernan Lake, though a lot of people go up there four wheeling
You can call the resort at 765-4000 and ask for cruises to get cruise schedules and pricing, so you can plan out which one you want to take.
There are also seaplane rides, parasailing rentals, and everything else you can imagine by the lake.
Also there are a lot of fantastic bike trails to do, if you bring your bike or rent one.

The silver valley is 30 minutes away and has some mine tours and the trail of the hiawatha bike ride.
If you post for Glacier National Park, I%26#39;ll pick you back up on that post.
Creston is about a 3 to 4 hour drive. There is also a Creton Valley Wild Animal Center.

Closer to Coeur d%26#39;Alene, do go spend some time in Sand Pointe. IT has a very pretty lake.

Also, Farrugut State Park (about 1/2 hour drive from Coeur d%26#39;Alene) is pretty to go to:

You might not be interested, but there is also Silverwood Amusement Park open in the summer.

It sounds like you have reason to stay a week in Coeur dAlene, but if not, you might want to tour north into Canada. Its about a 6 hour drive to Kootenay National Park

There are some wonderful natural hot springs to swim in directly outside the park. One of several is Radium Hot Springs - where we have spent some enjoyable time.

There are better hot springs than Radium in the Kootenays. If you decide to spend a day or two in that area and you are interested in hot springs, give me a holler and I can point you in the right direction. Whiteswan Provincial Park has some undeveloped hot springs that are *way* cool.
you could also check out kellogg take a ride up the gondala there at silver mountain do some hiking and take in the vistas
another thing thats fun to do is head to sandpoint and float the coeur d alane river on tubes or rafts.
