Craters of the moon in December

Hi!

We are doing a cross country trip through the Northern state in mid-december. I was wondering if we could see craters of the moon at that time of the year? Is it still visible and is it worth going to? What would you recommend?

Thanks!

Craters of the moon in December

Hi hji, Craters of the Moon is open throughout the winter (except on holidays) but the Loop Road may be closed due to snow. It can be cold up there so if you%26#39;re going, bundle up! I%26#39;d say that if this is something you%26#39;ve always wanted to see, go ahead and visit. We don%26#39;t have a lot of snow in southern Idaho right now and the weather has been fairly mild, but this can change at any time.

Here%26#39;s the website for Craters of the Moon:

Have a great trip!

Craters of the moon in December

Thanks Pug. So, can one still see the craters? It does not get covered with snow?

hji, if you%26#39;re coming next week or the week after, you will probably be OK. As far as I know there isn%26#39;t any snow up there yet. I think it%26#39;s even prettier with a skiff of snow. The thing to do might be to call the office at Craters of the Moon the day before you plan to visit and see what the weather conditions are. If it%26#39;s really snowy or icy you probably don%26#39;t want to be driving up there anyway.
