Hi all,
I will be driving from the Boise Airport to Ketchum this coming Friday evening, October 3rd. This is a short 1-day business visit for me to Ketchum and, unfortunately I will not have any time for sightseeing. What is the fastest route? My mapping software shows 2 options: I-84 to US-20 to ID-75, and a route via I-84 and US-26 that intersects with ID-75 in Shoshone and onward to Ketchum. The latter route is longer mileage-wise by 25 or 30 miles.
My mapping software estimates both routes are approximately 3 hours and change. I will be driving between 6PM and 9PM on Friday and having the option to make a rest stop or two after a long flight from the East Coast will be important.
I understand that there may be construction on either route, but I am not sure of the extent or the potential delays.
Any recommendations and suggestions for the route that best meets my needs for this short trip would be greatly welcome!
I will definely be able to take some extra time to appreciate the area on a future trip and do the drive the right way.
Thanks in advance!
Recommended Route from Boise Airport to Ketchum
Hi....the I-84, US-20, ID-75 route is the best one to take. Its more direct, and typically has less traffic than the other route. You should be able to do it in about 2 1/2 hours from airport to Ketchum. The two places I would suggest for a stop on this route are in Mountain Home (this is where you%26#39;ll connect to US-20), and again in Fairfield, which is close to the ID-75 connector. There is a rest stop right at the intersection of US-20 and ID-75 as well.
All of these stops are right on the road, so you won%26#39;t have to go too far off the highway. There are restaurants and gas stations in Mountain Home.
Enjoy your trip!

Thanks RooseveltGrille!
Your suggestions are extremely helpful. Where would you recommended dinner? If my flights are on time and the drive works out to be 3 hours or so, I should arrive Ketchum by 9PM.
I am assuming that you may be associated with the Roosevelt Grille (brilliant deduction on my part?) and if so, what time does the grill close?
Given the hour (my internal clock will be 11PM or so), I would be looking for something light like soup and salad and maybe a beer.
Again - I appreciate any recommendations you have!
You%26#39;re welcome! Glad the suggestions were helpful. Its a pretty smooth trip here from Boise.
Yes, I am associated with the Roosevelt Grille in Ketchum. Of course I would recommend them for dinner! We serve dinner until 10pm, and we a few salads and soups on the menu that might be just what you%26#39;re looking for. We have 10 beers on draft as well. Two other places I would suggest, so you have some options, would be Michel%26#39;s Cristiania, a French restaurant on Sun Valley Road, or the Pioneer Saloon, about a block down Main St. from the Roosevelt.
See you in Ketchum!
Dear Citykids, if you have time for a more leisurely trip on your way back, and don%26#39;t mind mountain roads, consider driving back to Boise via Highway 75 to Stanley, and catch Highway 21 from Stanley back to Boise. You%26#39;ll travel through the heart of God%26#39;s country, but it%26#39;ll take you 5 hours or so.
If you don%26#39;t have time, come back and see us some other time like you promised!
I agree with RooseveltGrille on the suggested route above, and the suggested places to eat. It%26#39;s pretty in Ketchum this time of year.
Have a great trip!
Pug
