About 15years ago we stayed at a lovely hotel on the lake....I think it was a Best Western. It had it%26#39;s own little marina, very nice spot. I can%26#39;t seem to find it anywhere now and wondered if it had changed names or is just no longer there. Thanks

You might be thinking of the Best Western Edgewater Resort in Sandpoint, Idaho, they do have lake front views. The only hotel on Lake Coeur d%26#39;Alene, in Coeur d%26#39;Alene, with a marina is the resort. The Red Lion in Post Falls, also has a Marina on the Spokane River.

Idaho retreat

Not sure what area to look first. Looking for serenity and beauty at a lodge/hotel nestled in a valley at the foot of the mountains where I can sit on a porch gazing out at a meadow with my morning cup of coffee and relax in the evening listening to the sounds of the night. Would be flying in and renting a car so not more than an hour or two drive.

Idaho retreat

Idaho is a big state so you have a variety of choices, if you are looking for a quiet retreat in North Idaho, I would look at the Priest Lake area. Priest Lake is a very large lake, surrounded by forested mountains. Nearest airport with airline service is Spokane, Washington, about a 2 hour drive by interstate and highway from Priest Lake. I got to thinking about this, and if it%26#39;s anything like the Baja/Cabo forum, people don%26#39;t usually look at the broad choice, but rather, zero in on the particular place they are thinking about. So, there probably aren%26#39;t a lot of people that actually go directly to Idaho, but rather to the city choice.

No, it%26#39;s nothing like the Baja forum... I think Teaner is safe looking at ';Idaho.'; You might check out Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch south of Stanley. Very close to Redfish Lake, at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountains, porches and meadows. And it%26#39;s only a couple hours from Boise.

Planning Ski vacation to Sun Valley late Feb. 09, Need info.

We usually drive from Wisconsin to Colorado the 3rd. or 4th. week of February. We are considering Sun Valley (driving). We have never been there. Our style is to go skiing and then usually hybernate in a condo, but we have stayed in hotels. We have a teenage girl, so we don%26#39;t do the bar scene, and we eat in moderately priced restaurants (or cook in condo).

Sounds like we could stay in the ';Village'; or Ketchum. Would like to know pros %26amp; cons of each.

Sounds like Sun Valley is a historic resort, did most people stay in the village? Are there shuttle buses to the hills from the village or Ketchum? How far is Ketchum from the ski slopes?

Last trip to Durango Colorado, we stayed in a Residence Inn that offered condo style accomodations with the flexibility of a hotel (we weren%26#39;t ';locked in'; for a specific lenght of time, and ended up checking out a day early without penalty).

Since there are only 3 of us, all we need is a 1 bedroom condo, but we can make a single hotel room work, too.

As you can tell, I need lost of advice, including winter route driving info. Any and all advice would be appreciated!!!

Nick, I%26#39;m going to let Charley answer the bulk of your questions, but I just want to encourage you to try Sun Valley. In the winter the best route is probably I-80 and turn north at Twin Falls on Highway 93. There%26#39;s a convenient shuttle, plenty of different kinds of lodging to choose from, and a lot of great shopping. If they are having the sleigh rides when you%26#39;re here, I%26#39;d recommend that for one night. I like staying in a condo, because my sweetie cooks!

First of all, the ';village'; that you are refering to i think is the town of KEtchum? They are 1 mile apart and they have a bike trail between them, meaning in the dead of winter, easy walking. The busses run all over town, easy on and off anywhere.

I would google condos in Sun Valley area, they will bring up Ketchum, and try them. If you get one in SV, you will have use of the hot pools, ect. Just check them out. The ski hill is just at the base of the mountain, on time to get there. I just thought, try Penneys Lodge (can%26#39;t remember the exact name, but it will come up) and that is right at the base. He takes you over the short walk with his snowmobile. you feel special...

There are no pros or cons on where to stay. It is easy to get around from both. I would just see what is available, and decide. If you find out about any, PM me and i will check them out...enjoy

Cougar Mountain Lodge-is it still there?

I am seeking some nostalgic information.

When I was a kid in the early 1970%26#39;s, we visited an uncle in Nampa. He took us to a family cabin in McCall for a couple of days.

I can still remember the beautiful drive and stopping to eat at a place along the Payette River (I think) called Cougar Mountain Lodge. In my memory, I had a fantastic meal there.

I am wondering if that place is still in business.

(Last month, we visited Yellowstone. I wish we could have had the time to visit Idaho. We drove across the state line near West Yellowstone to take a picture of my kids by the ';Welcome to Idaho'; sign. We plan to frame it and give it to my mom, who is a proud native of your beautiful state.)

That%26#39;s a tough one. I shouldn%26#39;t logically consider Redfish Lake and the Sawtooths in the background as Southern Idaho (much more Central), but it%26#39;s THE place in the region as far as I%26#39;m concerned.

Some might argue for Driggs and Victor, on the backside of the Tetons (about due east of Idaho Falls). That%26#39;s clearly ';Eastern Idaho'; FWIW.

The drive I want to try, that I%26#39;ve heard about from an ex of the ex, concerns Bear Lake in far Southeastern Idaho (and into Utah). Perhaps someone else knows something about this area.

Most Beautiful Area

I%26#39;ve been to all three mentioned. Bear Lake is beautiful, but it doesn%26#39;t have the unlimited hiking and numerous lakes that are in the Sawtooths. Driggs/Victor/Swan Lake can all be done as part of a Yellowstone/Grand Teton trip. My top choice in all of Idaho would be the Sawtooth Mountains (granted, it is CENTRAL Idaho, not south).

I%26#39;m staying at the Grove Hotel for a couple of days and was interested in finding a coffee shop or some other place nearby that would offer free wi-fi so I can stay in touch with my friends without having to pay The Grove%26#39;s daily internet service charge. Any suggestions?

boise is very wifi friendly you should have no problem finding free wifi.the airport has free wifi.

I think you can get free wifi in the grove park right outside of hotel if not then most coffe shops downtown have. right acroos the street from Grove is BoDo shopping I think tullys coffe shop has free wifi

only 1 block south of Grove in BoDo but has better trip advisor rating. rated no 1 hotel in Boise.

boise has some great resturants downtown many with outside patio%26#39;s all close to hotel

right across from the Grove hotel across the little grove park and fountain is the Brick Oven Bistro

one of my fav places to eat, sit on the patio have a beer and people watch. LOL they have the best strawberry shortcake in towm IMO.

Hotel is the conference hotel, so I%26#39;m locked in there, but I love the idea of the bistro and people watching in my free time. I also love strawberry shortcake. I%26#39;ll make it a point to stop by.

ok restaurants in boise...again, my favorite is the red feather. absoultly the best martini and the asiago calamari is to kill for..

I%26#39;m staying in an hotel on the River Parkway near W. Bradway St., Idaho Falls at end of July for a few days.

Are there any good/ pleasant bars/ clubs nearby that have live music mid week (Country and Western/ Blues/ Jazz/ etc.)? If not live then just pleasant atmosphere?

Yes, you have a couple of options for live music in Idaho Falls in July. Every Wednesday evening there is an ';Alive After Five'; concert on ';A'; Street on the other side of the river from your hotel (minute walk). Live band, food, beer/wine, etc...

Also, on (I think) Thursday through Saturday nights there is a band at Vino Rosso (also on ';A'; street, right where they close off the street for Alive After Five across from the Colonial Theater). Typical wine bar, serve hors d%26#39;ouevres and light snacks.
